MOROGORO TEACHER'S CONFLICT RESOLVED.

MOROGORO Municipal and Kilombero District councils have managed to stop teachers' peaceful demonstration which was to have taken place on March first this year for what the teachers said were their unsettled debts in the districts.
Morogoro Regional Teachers Union (TTU) Secretary Mr Issa Ngayama told 'Daily News on Saturday' that the payment of 303,456,560.52m/- out of 467,941,047.52m/- was deposited on February 28 this year in teachers' accounts, an act that defused their fury to demonstrate.
Mr Ngayama said the total amount owed to teachers was 356.4m/- in Morogoro Municipal and in Kilombero it was 111.5m/-. More than three quarter of the demand was fulfilled. He said there were 29 teachers in the municipals who had not been paid because their documents had some problems.
The Municipal Director called them to have the problems solved and their money would be paid because corrections had been made. Speaking over the teachers debt in Morogoro Region, TTU Chairperson Judith Sauli, said teachers' debts in the whole region was 1.6bn/-.

MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK - OUR PRIDE.

Swirls of opaque mist hide the advancing dawn. The first shafts of sun colour the fluffy grass heads rippling across the plain in a russet halo. A herd of zebras, confident in their camouflage at this predatory hour, pose like ballerinas, heads aligned and stripes merging in flowing motion.

Mikumi National Park abuts the northern border of Africa's biggest game reserve - the Selous – and is transected by the surfaced road between Dar es Salaam and Iringa. It is thus the most accessible part of a 75,000 square kilometre (47,000 square mile) tract of wilderness that stretches east almost as far as the Indian Ocean.

The open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the popular centrepiece of Mikumi, draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains.

Lions survey their grassy kingdom – and the zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo herds that migrate across it – from the flattened tops of termite mounds, or sometimes, during the rains, from perches high in the trees. Giraffes forage in the isolated acacia stands that fringe the Mkata River, islets of shade favoured also by Mikumi's elephants.
Giraffe's at Mikumi National Park
---
Criss-crossed by a good circuit of game-viewing roads, the Mkata Floodplain is perhaps the most reliable place in Tanzania for sightings of the powerful eland, the world’s largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope haunt the miombo-covered foothills of the mountains that rise from the park’s borders.

More than 400 bird species have been recorded, with such colourful common residents as the lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated longclaw and bateleur eagle joined by a host of European migrants during the rainy season. Hippos are the star attraction of the pair of pools situated 5km north of the main entrance gate, supported by an ever-changing cast of waterbirds.

About Mikumi National Park
Size: 3,230 sq km (1,250 sq miles), the fourth-largest park in Tanzania, and part of a much larger ecosystem centred on the uniquely vast Selous Game Reserve.

Location: 283 km (175 miles) west of Dar es Salaam, north of Selous, and en route to Ruaha, Udzungwa and (for the intrepid) Katavi.

How to get there
A good surfaced road connects Mikumi to Dar es Salaam via Morogoro, a roughly 4 hour drive.
Also road connections to Udzungwa, Ruaha and (dry season only) Selous.
Charter flight from Dar es Salaam, Arusha or Selous. Local buses run from Dar to park HQ where game drives can be arranged.

What to do
Game drives and guided walks. Visit nearby Udzungwa or travel on to Selous or Ruaha.

When to go
Accessible year round.

Accommodation
Two lodges, three luxury tented camps, three campsites.
Guest houses in Mikumi town on the park border. One lodge is proposed at Mahondo and one permanent tented camp at Lumaaga

SIX LOCAL PRODUCERS CHALLANGED ON QUALITY.

Morogoro — THE Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) has challenged local entrepreneurs to produce quality goods to be able to compete in the world market.
The call was made on Thursday by TPSF Managing Director, Mr Godfrey Simbeye when he was opening three-day workshop for local entrepreneurs. He said TPSF fully understands bottlenecks that hinder the local entrepreneurs to grow but blamed them for lack of innovation.
"You must take into account various aspects when making a product. Always think of customers who will buy your product", he said. He said packaging should be a key in attracting a buyer, Mr Simbeye said lack of capital was another problem facing the local producers, adding that efforts should be made to support them financially.
"The commercial banks charge high interest rates which are beyond the reach of majority of the local producers", he said. He said TPSF is discussing the issue with different banks to see a possibility of giving special interest rates to the local producers. Speaking at the same occasion, Business Development Gateway (BDG) Manager, Mr Sosthenes Sambua said the number of committed entrepreneurs is growing very fast.
"What they are lacking is training and exposure to enable them compete at a higher level", he said. He said it was sad to see imported products in the supermarkets while the same could be sourced locally. The workshop has brought together 50 entrepreneurs from all over the country.

ABOUT MOROGORO

The region has many plantations of sisalcotton and sugarcane. The Uluguru Mountains are also situated within the region
---
Morogoro Region is one of the 26 regions of Tanzania. It is bordered to the North by the Tanga Region, to the East by the Pwani and Lindi Regions, to the South by the Ruvuma Region and to the West by the Iringa and Dodoma Regions.

Morogoro lies in the agricultural heartland of Tanzania, and is a centre of farming in the southern highlands. Tobacco is grown in the region and consolidated here before going on to market. In addition to its agricultural importance, Morogoro is also the centre for missionary work that goes on in the country, and the various missions and their schools and hospitals are a central feature of the town.
The town of Morogoro lies at the base of the Uluguru Mountains, part of the Eastern Arc chain. Its close location to the peaks makes Morogoro an important stop for hiking trips to the Ulugurus. The mountains are notable for their ancient forests, which botanists estimate to be around 25 million year old — some of the oldest forests on the continent. The ancient woodlands support an incredible array of bird and insect life, as well as diverse plant species. The indigenous Luguru tribe offers cultural tourism programmes around the Ulugurus and outside Morogoro.
According to the 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of the Morogoro Region was 1,759,809.
The regional commissioner of the Morogoro Region is Joel Bendera

Districts

The Morogoro Region is administratively divided into 6 districts: Mvomero, Kilosa, Kilombero, Morogoro Magharibi, Morogoro Mashariki, Ulanga
